FESTIVAL RECAP: Global Dance Festival 2012

Continuing on with our coverage from Global Dance Festival…

Sunday’s stacked lineup did nothing short of live up to expectations. I made sure to get to Red Rocks early enough to catch Figure’s set. You know how a lot of people think that bass music sounds “evil” or “dark.” Well, Figure themes many of his tracks on slasher characters and Halloween types so it really is evil and dark… and just plain awesome. After Figure it was unfortunate that Adventure Club and Kill the Noise played at the same time. I stayed around the main stage to snag photos of Adventure Club and that was well worth it. The smaller stage at the back of the amphitheater (where concessions normally are up top) didn’t look as great in photos as the majestic main stage. Following Adventure Club, I did make my way back to see some of 12th Planet who has never let me down in the past. I enjoyed his set but wasn’t too blown away so I left a little early to see some of Dillon Francis drop some moomba beats. At this point I stayed at the main stage throughout the night. After Dillon Francis, Zeds Dead came on with Omar Linx. I’ve never been a huge fan of Omar Linx coming on Zeds Dead tracks but there were enough without him at this set that I still thoroughly raged their show. And I didn’t mind him as much as I normally do. Lastly Excision… holy shit. I’d seen Excision play before at the Congress Theater in Chicago with The Shpongletron Experience. His set at that show was cool but nothing to call home about. So, my expectations for this Global set were not incredibly high. But damn was I in for a treat. This set was by far the dirtiest, nastiest, most ballin’ out badass set of the day. Definitely go see Excision if he’s coming to a venue near you. And don’t forget to check out my photos from the day.
